End of a Love Affair
68End of a Love Affair
Stories about love and love affairs usually fascinate me. Second to Lee Child mysteries, that is. Quotes about love are among my favorites. Like this quote from Rita Rudner: "Before I met my husband, I'd never fallen in love. I'd stepped in it a few times."
So I got to thinking about how many songs have been written about being in love. and how many have been written about breaking up - the end of a love affair. Literally hundreds.
So I said to myself, "Self, I bet you could write a story using only song titles." Of course, I took the challenge. Here is my story about the end of a love affair written by using only the words in published song titles.
Boy - Be my love.
Girl - Let me go, lover.
Boy - I just called to say I love you.
Girl - What's love got to do with it?
Boy - I can't stop loving you.
Girl - Will you still love me tomorrow?
Boy - Make love to me.
Girl - Stop, in the name of love!
Boy - Love will keep us together.
Girl - Part-time lover!
The Righteous Brothers
Boy - I want you, I need you!
Girl - You've lost that loving feeling.
Boy - This guy's in love with you.
Girl - You give love a bad name.
The Beatles
Boy - All you need is love.
Girl - 50 ways to leave your lover.
Boy - How am I supposed to live without you?
Girl - I'll never fall in love again.
Boy - Breakin' up is hard to do!
Girl - Why don't you do right?
Boy - Love and marriage . . .
Girl - I would do anything for love, but I won't do that!
Favorite "Song" Cartoons
Did I capture the poignant drama of the end of a love affair? Did the song titles do the job?
Here are some of my favorite love quotes to put a smile on your face and a sparkle in your step. Share them with someone you love.
"You have to walk carefully in the beginning of love; the running across fields into your lover's arms can only come later when you're sure they won't laugh if you trip." ~Jonathan Carroll
"Love is the word used to label the sexual excitement of the young, the habituation of the middle-aged, and the mutual dependence of the old." ~John Ciardi
"Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired ." ~ Robert Frost
"Infatuation subsides, so make sure the other person is someone who can stand
you." - drbj
"Love means nothing in tennis, but it's everything in life." ~Author Unknown
"To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world ." ~Author Unknown
"You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving." ~Author Unknown

drbj, is there no limit to your talents? Very entertaining hub - in more ways than one! :)
Oh...and I love your quote about infatuation!
Very entertaining and creative. Thanks
Oh yes ma'am. I loved this. Thank you so much drbj!
Nice songs :-)
What a good idea this is DRBJ :-)
Creatively awesome stuff!
Thanks for sharing ; )
Very ingenious!
It felt to me more like girl dangerously playing hard to get. But that's the beauty of a creative piece of writing...when done well, we get to bring our own experiences, and thus connotations, to the words. Super idea! I'll bet that was fun to do.
This is a wonderful hub and a great selection of songs you have put together drbj.
This was great. You the best drbj! I've always love Bon Jovi's You Give Love a Bad Name.
I have to agree with feline - There seems to be no limits to your talent!! From Interviews with dead people to Love Quotes, and throwing some animals and advice in between!! What a lovely range of talents you have!
I love how you ended with Meatloaf!! One of my favorite songs!
Up and Awesome!!
Happy Valentine's Day doc! You gotta love it :) ...and I agree your love quote is the tops! Cheers
Ohhhhh, I love this, all my favorites. I liked your quote better than any of the others. You are an original. When Michael Bolton sings, i'm in seventh heaven ( What ever that means ) Thank you so much for sharing your gift of ideas and fun.
Cheers
A cleverly and well put-together hub. Very enjoyable.
Best hub I've read today! Love the songs! You are such a talented hubber. You're setting the bar a little high for the rest of us!
And if I were on the Pulitzer Prize Committee, I would vote for you!! GREAT job; loved YOUR quote!!
Has any subject had quite so much coverage as that strange thing we call love? Fun hub.
Good selection of songs drbj and a very clever way to write a love story.
Very clever, and some great songs as well.
I loved the quote about running across the field.
It is just typical of what might happen.
Yes the song titles did the work and with brilliance too! This was a great way to use songs titles! I think you have come up with a marvellous idea and I bet you can write many more chapters with the aid of titles of love. As you say, there are so many of them! The Pullitzer Price is in reach for you! Voted up!
Good Doctor bj - You did it once again. Fun hub, particularly if you like loving and reading. I really liked the cartoons you stuck at the end of things, like the centipedes, the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Thanks drbj.
Gus :-)))
Beautiful songs, lovely quotes, funny pictures, impressive, romantic duo, even though it ended with “Bye-bye love” performing by “distant drums” “where roses never fade”.
Once upon a time I loved to write stories with the titles of songs. With this hub you inspire me to give it a go again... sometime.
Thanks for a much enjoyable read, drjb. I just love your writings, your sense of humor, your genius thoughts and just everything you are up here in the cyber space. Take care! You mean a lot to many up here.
Hi Drbj, Yes you've done a great job of shattering that poor bloke's heart, (the story of my early life). It's great fun juggling ideas about into a coherent pattern. So well done for succeeding. Most of those songs are belters too.
Very clever hub! All of those songs reminded me of my youth and I enjoyed them immensely. The quotes were a great ending for the hub. Voted/rated up.
Fun, fun, fun!! Love your creative categorization of the songs. The quotes are wonderful at the end, too. The Robert Frost one is a favorite. Happy Valentine's Day, Grammy Awards, etc. etc.!
This is OMG an awesome song and a major flash back for me, the The Righteous Brothers, lost that loving feeling, many year ago I went with Bill Medly for a few years.. Our sons where the same age, and when I went to his concerts he would sing this sound and others and walk right up to me as I was sitting in front of the stage and sing that song to me...what a memory. That you my darin friend, rate way up, love & peace darski rate way up
What a brilliant hub. The words and videos were exciting and I loved it all. So many memories brought to fore when LOVE was a very splendid thing and LOVE story was the rage.
LOVE was in the air and young LOVERS everywhere. The most singular word LOVE that captures every heart especially on Valentine's weekend. Hugs and thank you for your tender LOVING memories. Bravo, Applause take a bow:0)
OMG - I am "in love" with this hub!!! If you could only see me right now...singing along with these priceless videos. My favorites are - "Breakin up is hard to do",
"How am I supposed to live", and "This guys in love with you". But stop! How did you ever come up with this incredible idea for a hub? I just may stay right here, the rest of the day! What a talent you are!
great hub and great music too....love is surely in the air! Happy valentine's day!
What a fantastic collection of love story songs, love the quote, stepped in it a few times. What an amazing collection of boy, girl music videos a classic list and what a great day to stumble upon such a beautiful collection of love songs. Happy Valentines Day to you and yours! Much LOVE! :) Katie
Nice to remember some musics from 70s and 80s like Stevie Wonder...etc - Is reason to say "Is All Love"
...there will never be an 'end' to my love affair with the best hubs in hub town and your poetic comments of genius to me - so I rate this hub so far up - that it's already landed on Mars (ahead of the Americans)
Ingenious song choices and very funny but you know, it was the original Grammy that made me smile and feel all warm and fuzzy. Now I'm off for a little Meatloaf :)
"Infatuation subsides, so make sure the other person is someone who can stand you." - drbj
Well, now I know you are a genius for sure!
Great quotes and fantastic song selection. Gotta love Tina's What's Love Got To Do With It? You make a great point with the views of men and women and how we are miles apart perhaps but still we keep looking for love...in all the wrong places....I think you need to do a sequel with more songs!
Happy Valentine's Day to my favorite cut-up!
Drbj, great list of music here. Michael Bolton is the king of this group, in my eyes. A real ladies man.
you know it's a bad thing when I end up singing together with friends. Sometings make a great u-tube, not this=) well done awesome hub.
Such a clever idea this was, drbj, and you definitely succeeded in telling the story! I also loved your quotations and cartoons.
Have you checked out the link I sent you in my comment to your comment on my pigeon poop hub?
What an effort you put up here! Very nice hub. I smiled as I came upon Tom Jones', "I'll Never Fall In Love Again". Thanks.
That was amazing! You are wonderful and so clever....Really enjoyed the songs.
0What a brilliant and unusual idea!Love it,yes,I do! :)
Great idea! And as I was reading the song titles, I was thinking you'd end with 'Love Stinks'. But maybe that's not the title of that song...
ha ha... no I can admit clearly that as much as i enjoy singing, I shall stick to writing... much better at it believe
Everything you do, Drbj, you do with flair. This was no exception!
I loved the "title story", but even more so, the pearls of wisdom from authors mostly unknown. My favorite was, of course,
"Infatuation subsides, so make sure the other person is someone who can stand you."
I wonder who the genius was who thought of that one? :)
I love this! And your quote about infatuation is so true -- I used that kind of logic in choosing my husband. :)
Of all words, the word "love" appears in more song titles than any other.
This quote:
"Love is the word used to label the sexual excitement of the young, the habituation of the middle-aged, and the mutual dependence of the old." ~John Ciardi
I hope that is not ALL it is but I have to tell you that quote hits the heart of an amazing truth.
Thank you for this excellent Hub. I enjoyed it. Great idea. Always the creative one you are.
That was a fun hub. It reminded me of those musical interviews that DJ's use to put together using lines out of songs...all the rage at one time. Thanks for sharing! WB
This is a "love" of a Hub! Thoroughly enjoyed the read and will listen to every song on the list at work later since I seem to know them all.
Nice hub which i enjoyed dreading from.
Dr. BJ,
Ha-Ha on the song. Tre cute and totally witty. :)
I dislike romance novels, but if the writer manages to toss in a bit of adventure with them, it helps me endure the read. So far, Diana Gabaldon is pulling this off nicely for me to the point that I've even re-read some of her work.
As for me, I've stepped in it, waded in it, rolled around a time or two in it, and ... a whole lot of stall mucking going on when it's over.
However and on the bright side ... hope springs eternal. :)
Dr. BJ,
I'm sorry to be the one to ruin your fantasy, but ....
stall mucking isn't even remotely enchanting, lol!
