How to Generate More Traffic
90No, not this kind of TRAFFIC!
How To Generate More Traffic
Use the "Philosophy of Success."
Some people dream of success... while others wake up and work hard at it.
Have you ever wondered why some Hubs get mega traffic and others very little? Why some Hubs get comments galore and others hardly any? Why some Hubbers are searched for and others still unknown? Why some Hubs have hundreds of followers? We used to call them fans. And others have only a few?
Well, wonder no longer. I have finally discovered what makes all this additional traffic, comments and searches happen. I call it “The Philosophy of Success.” The Philosophy is based on the fact that every human being operates as if he or she were listening to an internal radio station, W I I-FM – What’s In It For Me? That’s a fact of human nature and a normal behavior
So, cater to that simple fact with your Hubs. Are you ready for the Philosophy? Here it is:
The Philosophy of Success
Give your readers the things they want that help them and make them happy . . . and then if you have monetized your Hub, sell them things that will help them even more, and make them even happier!
That’s it. Simple? Of course. But ask yourself, do you keep the reader in mind with every Hub you write? Since we are all constantly listening to that same radio station, W I I – FM, your content has to show your readers what’s in it for them.
I became aware of this simple truth by reading many – literally hundreds – of traffic-attracting Hubs and then attempting to analyze why they enjoyed superior readership and continual profit. If you are writing Hubs just to express yourself in a personal-journal-manner with no thought of increasing traffic or profit, you are free to stop reading right now.
But if you enjoy expressing yourself while stating your personal opinions or well-researched information and explanations, and are not averse to making some money at the same time, then read on.
As simple as it sounds, “The Philosophy” really works. Although there is a trick to selling things. Well, not really a trick. Call it a strategy – a planned approach you will use in order to create a necessary result. First, you must be able to do the following:
1. Discover what your Hub readers want and what information you can provide that can actually help them get it.
2. Demonstrate that you can give them what they want by helping them right from the beginning of your hub.
3. Write in language that is easy to understand and always keep their best interests in mind.
4. Give them reasons by means of your language, images, videos and links to take action now.
Success is simply a matter of luck. Ask any failure. ~Earl Wilson
When you use “The Philosophy” you invite your readers to join you instead of pushing your stuff at them just like everyone else. Look at it this way. It’s like the difference between being an uninvited, pesky door-to-door sales person they want to avoid. Or being a recognized and interesting “expert” they will go out of their way to read and do business with.
Do you really want to help people to be happy and get what they want? And get paid for doing so? Then be nice to your readers and help them as much as you can. You will soon create a following that really loves your stuff and practically demands you create even more of your interesting Hubs with even more products for them to buy that will help them and make them even happier.
Now, without further ado . . . hold it. I have to express a personal bias here. Why do people, before they introduce something, often say, “without further ado”? Has some ado taken place I’m not aware of? If so, what was it and how did I miss it? O.K., now that’s out of my system.
Here are some concrete examples of successful Hubbers with mucho traffic and mucho offers for their readers who already use this philosophy. There are thousands of others of course. I read somewhere there are about 138,000 different Hubbers on HubPages. But here are the nine down-to-earth, informative, easy-to-understand Hubbers who I believe illustrate and profit by The Philosophy of Success by helping their readers to get what they want.
Now go forth, generate more traffic, and make your readers happy.

Cooooo - I'm a philosopher :)
I have no idea how I got here you know. I stumbled upon the site quite by accident. The hubs I've written as a means of helping fellow hubbers were driven by the fact that I'd no idea what I was doing when I first joined.
I didn't ask for help at the start, instead I went off reading. I read, and read - and read. It took me until September before I really worked out what the site is, what you can do on it.
Now I just pop by, stuff a hub in my account, refine it and hit publish.
I have to say drbj - I had nor have now any form of game plan. I just write and hope. And while hoping I write something else.
If I didn't have work to think on, which isn't massively difficult, more confounding than anything, I'd probably pop at least two a day out, every day. Goodness knows what I'd spawn at that rate :)
Great hub, as ever, and rated up twice.
Excellent advice! I appreciate your open heart, willing to serve others.
Great advice. Putting yourself in the shoes of the reader is spot on.
Howdy Doctor bj - Nice article! The "philosophy 1,2,3 and 4" are essentially what the pros have taught to successful salespeople. Nice job of translating those points into the world of Hubpages articles!
Gus :-)))
Well that's very nice of you drbj. But honest, it jut dribbles out. I struggle to write product hubs because I want to talk, chat, you know? The way I prefer to produce a hub is to write like I think, as though I'm talking to someone. And they can't talk back ;)
I do get some lovely feedback though and I try and answer everyone, though I miss some on occasion.
And the last bit of my first comment wasn't a superlative, I meant it. I'm going to rate your hub again, because it's worthy. You write far better than I, you don't waffle ;)
Great hub with solid advice. I always try and offer something of value to my readers, otherwise what is the point of them reading it.
Rated up and bookmarked.
*lols at pancaking*
I like your newly coined word too - Hubuddy. We should all walk around like HP nerds, with that emblazoned across the front!
It may interest you to know that right now I'm struggling to write something :/ Products. Not my cup of tea. Though the one time I did direct market something, 'twas my house. Read up on what you need to do to successfully sell your home, followed the steps (I like instructions) and it sold to the first viewer. I have flair ... for ... stuff.
*Knows her flair really relates to reading but whatever*
Thanks a lot for sharing great points to get more traffic for our Hubs. I agree with all of your valuable tips. Great Hub indeed.
This is great info drbj - I'm going to bookmark this one, I've only read one of the nine hubs you mentioned. Thanks for sharing your insight. Thumbs up! :)
drbj, I never thought of myself as a philosopher. But I like the sounds of your "Philosophy of Success".
My goal in getting traffic is for the comments:
I am narcissistic and LOVE getting comments, the higher the traffic, the more comments I get. I especially like the nice ones :)
Sorry but I saw nothing there to help me increase my traffic except links to other hubs.
Fair point, I retract my orginal comment ; )
There are good examples of people who have done very well from the hubs. And many have sound ideas, backlinks, relevance in the content. Google have a way of knowing how relevant the content is, and whether hubs get the visits or not from others.
Yes, drbj, it always comes down to giving value to others.
But the really refreshing hubs are the ones with the special, sensible, sophisticated LANGUAGE and I mean the English language with its huge variety of words and terms.
No, I am NOT talking about keywords or backlinks, that's business and that's why we are here for anyway.
And so, with no further ado, I would like to thank you for this hub in which you manage to combine linguistic "belleza" with business.
Nice learning. Nice article.
I'm still learning and reading a lot. I appreciate all the advice that others have provided. Learning how to write the right types of Hubs, monetizing and building a following are not always easy. Thanks for addressing this philosophy of success ... it was nice to provide links to some hubs to broaden this topic. I've already read most of them!
Great tips for any new or veteran hubber. Thanks!
very nice one, thats why I am reading you now, you got me to read and come back for more, thank you, you're really a motivator! Maita
this is an excellent well thought out hub, of course many thanks for adding my link, I am honoured. It means a lot .
drbj - and without further ado . . ;) you always make it an interesting read no matter what the topic! Traffic is an interesting thing and not always an easy task . .but I am trying to follow all your tips. . especially as I am going through the challenge. Ill can tell you first and it doesnt hurt having friends like you to bring on traffic :)
Thumbs up!
drbj, you have a very practical way of seeing things and articulating them. I've struggled sometimes by writing to diverse and completely disparate readers (for example, my sports hubs get almost all outside traffic and bore other hubbers to death, but are among my most well-read).
You have given me a glimpse of how to frame what I write in my own mind. I can't even explain it myself, but I feel like I've seen something after reading here that I hadn't seen before.
It is late, but I will come back and read your hub again tomorrow and, if possible, try to leave a comment that makes more sense.
Thanks, your words turned on a light bulb of sorts.
Mike
very refreshing post, away from all the usual onpage and offpage seo stuff. I agree that ultimately it's the content that counts.
Hi drbj,
I enjoyed reading your informative hub, will help with future hubs of mine.
This is a great hub, I especially like the way you have mentioned other hubbers, a couple of the names I already know but the others not, going to go see what they have to say :)
...well that's easy - I just tell them I know you - and they come running ...... 'cos at these pages of Hub you are only as good as the company you keep - and you my friend are great company!!!
There's a game plan to everything in life. I have been a successful entrepreneur in my time. Involved in sales and marketing most of my career and enjoyed it to some degree.
The WIIFM for me has always been a major ingredient to have much success in offering an item for sale that would attract the attention of a buyer. After all buyers like doing business with people who they can trust, give them something of value that they want or need and of course quality.
I came to Hubs not to make money, however after joining and learning how one can make some extra jingle jangle, I have learned by reading and watching the money makers on here.
You mentioned a few, it's actually quite simple to do if you want to produce those types of blogs, but if you just want to have fun and write poetry and life experiences like me then I will watch my Adsense grow by pennies every month:0) and that's okay to.
Thank you for the great tips, I am sure many will enjoy learning more about how to make money in here and go fly with the eagles to the money pit.
Nice article, thank you for sharing with us
What a great resource and how wonderful that you included so many helpful hubs. I tell you there is more free good help here than anywhere on the planet. I'm putting on my learning hat... where is that darn hat?
Oh there it is always atop my head as I'm always learning thanks to great people like yourself. Thank you for the insights on how to generate more traffic. :)
Hello drbj, so glad to read your hub, it's excellent advise, and I am still trying to figure out my nitch and who I am and fumbling around with interesting subjects that pass my way. I enjoyed learning and reading your up and you rate up up up...love & peace darsk Hugs
good advice and it makes sense, but here's my personal problem. first off i love this site and it's a great place for me to place my work. i like to write about film, tv, or just go on what i think are funny rants. it seems to me that on this site for anybody to notice you even just one person you've got to write about "Soup" or "how to walk to Denver without using Your Feet" type of hubs.
should i just come to the fact that this site isn't going to get me the type of people i hope to attract or should i "sell" out and write about "The best ways to color eggs, if you're homeless" :)
other than me complaining, great hub again. thanks for sharing. i'll be back for more very soon.
Jon
Good Hub.Loved the picture on traffic.Your humor worked.Got hooked on to reading this hub after watching that picture and how well you used its irrelevancy.Great job.Voted up
